Cut up and cleared a massive ghost net off the beach today at Ka'a'awa.
Ghost nets entangle monk seals, sea turtles, and other endangered marine life and greatly damage the fragile coral reef.

And before leaving for the day we made sure to show our gratitude for living in this amazing place with a quick beach clean up. Another great day in paradise! Cleaning the beaches at Kahana Bay today. Tons of plastic is washing up this week with heavy winds and rains hitting the Windward side. Grab some buddies and some buckets and get after it folks! With the Tradewinds picking back up Kailua and Kalama Beaches are getting pounded with waves of plastic washing in from the North Pacific Gyre - aka 'The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.'
This golden retriever has endless energy and wanted to keep cleaning for hours...so naturally, I obliged! But more plastic is coming in every hour! Get out there with some buddies and lend a hand folks! Sorting and cleaning ocean plastics and other marine debris this morning to assist a local Boy Scout Troop with a conservation related trash art project. Amazing to think some of this plastic has been circulating in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch for 7 years before reaching Hawaii... |
